Since the 50’s, art owes much to Karachi. To the Modernists it offered space unburdened by a cultural canon. The alumni of Karachi School of Art revitalized a traditional medium with the Watercolour Movement of the 1980s. Popular Art Movement that stimulated connections with the subculture of its bazaars emerged here in the 1990s. Today, with the country’s largest and oldest gallery network and discerning collector base, Karachi’s pulsating art activity is unrivaled in Pakistan.
