KB17 PechaKucha Intensive for Emerging Artists

July to November 2017

This project focused on enabling young artists to reflect on their practice and communicate ideas with coherence and confidence to a wider audience. It was open to talented artists from big and small towns of Pakistan.
Designed as a contest, the prize of the KB17 PechaKucha Intensive for Emerging Artists was an all paid trip for 10 finalists to visit the first Karachi Biennale and presentation of their work at a special event to a wider audience.
PechaKucha is a digital presentation format that has become very popular in the world because of its short presentation format that suits the focused communication of our age. It is based on 20 slides with 20 seconds for each slide so the presenter has to organize their thoughts and present them within the given time limit.
Over 80 artists under 35 years from all over Pakistan submitted bios and slides of their work, out of which 15 shortlisted artists from Quetta, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Tando Allahyar, Lahore and Karachi were invited to Karachi to participate in an intensive workshop to enhance their skills with experienced mentors.
The group made their Pechakucha presentations for a jury that selected the ten winners. On November 3, 2017, at the KB17 the winners made their Pechakucha presentations at the Rangoonwala Auditorium.
