Discursive Sessions
A strong discursive component reinforces the exhibitions, public programming, and community outreach activities of the Karachi Biennale.
Multiple sessions took place to address topics that connect art with the socio-economic and political spheres and share knowledge about the art practice of leading artists and art movements. The main discursive session “Ruptured Histories: Critical Exchanges on Issues of Decolonisation” was held on November 5 and 6, 2022 at the IBA City Campus and featured art experts from within and outside Pakistan.
Keynote talks with local and international speakers, including Sadia Abbas, Deepali Dewan and Aasim Akhtar, were also held and explored the art of Shahzia Sikandar, Zahoor ul Akhlaq and Mansaram, and photojournalist Mazhar Master.
The final discursive comprised of a panel on Ali Imam: Mrs. Shahnaz Imam, Kishwar Naheed, Tabinda Chinoy, Meher Afroz, Noorjehan Bilgrami, Moeen Faruqi and Aftab Tapal gathered together, with the art community, at the NJV School Library to pay tribute to the late artist.
